Now that we have fantastic court surfaces, please help us to keep them in top condition:
-
Only play in clean footwear to avoid dirt and grit entering onto the courts. There is a shoe brush and mat by the gate to assist.
-
Before play, check the courts and sweep away or pick up any fallen leaves or wind blown debris and check for any loose grit and remove – don’t leave this to someone else.
- Please remember to let down the nets after play, to minimise stress on the post fixings, and to tie up the nets so that they don’t rub and fray on the tarmac.
- We’ve been told that bird droppings and worms on the court can damage the surface if left, so please do what you can to wash off or remove anything you see.
-
Please report any obvious damage or issues to info@chalkevalleysportscentre.co.uk
The Chalke Valley Tennis Club has two recently resurfaced floodlit ‘all weather’ macadam hard courts at the Chalke Valley Sports Centre and tennis is played throughout the year. Around 100 family and individual members, from both inside and outside the Valley, enjoy:-
- Use of the courts at the CVSC whenever they are free, and also, by arrangement, of 2 other private courts in the Valley. You can use the event calendar to check that the courts have not already been booked. Then you can either just turn up — the courts will usually be free — or you can make a booking by e-mailing tennis@chalkevalleysportscentre.co.uk. See here for further details about using the private courts.
- All members are welcome just to turn up to our weekly social tennis sessions. We have regular ‘Mix-Ins’ on Thursday evenings from 6pm-8pm, and on Sunday mornings from 11am-1pm, and a gentler mix-in session for ‘intermediate’ players on Tuesday evenings from 7pm-8pm. There are WhatsApp groups for the various sessions so that you know if the sessions are running due to weather etc. — please let us know if you’d like to join any of these groups, or just turn up.
- Junior and adult coaching.
- Since we are an LTA-affiliated club, members have the opportunity to buy Wimbledon tickets from the LTA allocated to affiliated clubs.
- Adult tournaments – we continue to play in the Sarum and Shaftesbury doubles leagues. We try to field strong teams for the Sarum matches, while in the Shaftesbury League we try to accommodate all those who’d like to play. Please let us know if you are interested in playing league matches.
- Club singles ladder.
- Occasional social events.

Membership for 2024-5
The membership year runs from 1st April each year to 31st March the following year. To renew, or join as a new member, please use the online form here. Note that membership fees for new members decrease smoothly over the membership year — the form will compute the current fee for you if you indicate that you are signing up as a new member.
You need to be a member to use the MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area, by the Sports Centre pavilion) tennis courts – except for coaching lessons and guests (see below) – and members are able to play on the MUGA whenever it is free.
Non-members are welcome to play up to 5 times per year if they pay a session fee. The fee is £3 per adult per session, £2 per session for each child or person in full-time education. A player can play as a guest no more than five times in a year: after that the player needs to become a member. Please pay guest fees either (preferably) direct to the club account, number 01743042, sort code 30-97-41, or by cheque to the Chalke Valley Tennis Club, and forward your cheque to Matthew Dodd at Chapel Cottage, Chapel Lane, off North Street, Broadchalke SP5 5EN.
Wimbledon Ballot
Club members can opt-in on the LTA website to enter an LTA-run ballot for Wimbledon tickets. The ballot is run online – you join a queue to enter a website, and then can choose to buy a pair of tickets for some court on some day of the Wimbledon fortnight, according to what tickets are remaining. If you are interested, please make sure that you are signed up as an LTA member and check the LTA website about opting in to the ballot. As a CVTC member, you can join as an LTA Advantage Play+ member, affiliated to the Chalke Valley Tennis Club, free of charge here.
Safeguarding & Diversity Policies
As an LTA registered venue, the Chalke Valley Tennis Club has a safeguarding policy, summarised here, and a diversity and inclusion policy. The safeguarding policy summary is also displayed on the noticeboard at the Sports Centre. It is a condition of membership of the club that members comply with these policies. Our Welfare Officer is Philippa Swayne, who can be contacted on 07552 473707 about any concern over safeguarding or diversity issues.
